COURSE OBJECTIVES
Understand what it means to be born again: that I am a Spirit, I have a Soul, and I live in a body
Know and receive the power of the Cross and the Blood of Christ
Understand that, being born of the Spirit, we are able to discern between Spirit and soul
Understand that this discernment is accomplished through the living Word and is intended to bring the soul and the body into alignment with the Spirit
Understand what the soul is, what it is made of, and how it is transformed through the Word
Understand what the Word of God says about the body
LESSON OBJECTIVES
Week 1: Overview
At the end of these lessons, students will be able to:
- understand the difference between the first Adam and the last Adam, as well as the significance of the new birth and the new creation
- discover the power of the Cross and the Blood of Christ: to discern between the two trees and to recognize a tree by the fruit it produces
- bring the soul under the authority of the Spirit
Week 2: Distinguishing Between Spirit and Soul
At the end of these lessons, students will be able to:
- understand the process of merismos (inner separation): to discern the fine line between Spirit and soul and to break wrong alignments
- identify the consequences of failing to discern between spiritual relationships and soulish relationships, as well as spiritual ministry and soulish ministry
- gain a clear distinction between Spirit and soul, enabling them to demonstrate the fruit of merismos in their walk and ministry, living in alignment with the Spirit
Week 3: Born of the Spirit
At the end of these lessons, students will be able to:
- understand God’s promise and the significance of the new birth
- receive and understand their new identity as sons of God and new creations in Christ, clearly discerning the old nature from the new nature
- understand how to take possession of God’s promises, received through faith
- apply the truth of the new birth and the new creation to their daily lives
Week 4: A Life-Giving Spirit
At the end of these lessons, students will be able to:
- understand that salvation means a life transformed through the finished work of Christ
- recognize their identity in Christ through His crucifixion, burial, and resurrection
- live according to what the Word says about their identity as a new creation, reflecting the character of Christ through the transformation of the soul
Week 5: The Adoption of the Soul
At the end of these lessons, students will be able to:
- distinguish between the status of a slave and that of a son of God, knowing that they have been united with Christ
- understand the difference between the conforming of the soul and the transformation of the soul
- understand that submission is the way by which the Father’s will becomes the son’s will
- know and have the courage to receive the inheritance of their identity in Christ
Week 6: The Soul – Mind, Will, and Emotions
At the end of these lessons, students will be able to:
- understand the difference between the 3 main components of the soul: the mind, will, and emotions
- understand the difference: sin-consciousness and righteousness consciousness
- learn how to renew their thinking and live in obedience to the Spirit
- transition from relying on their own strength to living by the power of the Holy Spirit
Week 7: The Body – Part I
At the end of these lessons, students will be able to:
- understand how God redeems the physical body
- learn what the full Gospel teaches about the power of Christ’s resurrection, which extends even to our bodies
- discern the season they are in and recognize where they stand: before the Cross, in the tomb, at the moment of the resurrection, or after the resurrection
Week 8: The Body – Part II
At the end of these lessons, students will be able to:
- understand what death is, why it exists, and the effect it produces
- know how to live in the Truth: that death no longer has dominion over them
- believe in and receive God’s free gift, which is Eternal Life
